Jerry Pannone brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom to Philosophical Entertainment. With a career spanning decades, Jerry has left an indelible mark on the worlds of education, music, and philosophy. He earned his teaching credential and a Master’s degree in Music from San Francisco State University, alongside attending the prestigious Ali Akbar Khan College of North Indian Music. Throughout his journey, he has composed two ballets, choral ensemble works, jazz band pieces, and chamber ensemble compositions, showcasing his diverse musical talent.
In addition to his musical achievements, Jerry has dedicated himself to teaching, having taught students from elementary through high school in San Mateo, Oakland, and San Francisco, California. His passion for education has been further demonstrated by his 30-year tenure at the San Francisco School of the Arts (now the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts), where he taught humanities, critical thinking, and music. He also served as the conductor for the San Francisco School District Honor Orchestra and founded an ethics program, partnering with graduate students from San Francisco State University’s Philosophy Department in collaboration with two local high schools as part of the National High School Ethics Bowl (NHSEB).
Jerry’s efforts have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the San Francisco Symphony’s Agnes Albert Award for excellence in music education (2003) and the Teacher of the Year Award for California State Senate District 8 (2009). In 2018, he was honored with the California Music Educators Association’s Bay Area Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional contributions to music education.
A thinker and philosopher at heart, Jerry has maintained a lifelong interest in philosophy, psychology, and metaphysics. These passions have culminated in his book, Survive: Why We Do What We Do, which explores the depths of human behavior and meaning. He also produced, directed, and composed music for the short film The Screwdriver, a poignant work on Alzheimer’s disease, further showcasing his ability to intertwine artistic and intellectual pursuits.
